Leaders Council: GMB Union endorses Lisa Nandy in Labour leadership race

Labour MP Lisa Nandy's bid to succeed Jeremy Corbyn as party leader was handed a major boost as GMB Union endorsed her as their favoured candidate on Tuesday.

Announcing the decision, GMB general secretary Jim Roache said that the MP for Wigan was "a breath of fresh air in the debate over Labour's future" and that she "got the scale of the challenge" ahead for the party in turning around four successive general election defeats.

Meanwhile, Birmingham Yardley MP Jess Phillips has confirmed that she will be withdrawing from the running.
