Leaders Council reports on European Parliament Withdrawal Agreement vote

The Leaders Council of Great Britain & Northern Ireland has published its report on Wednesday evening's historic vote in the European Parliament, as MEPs ratified the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement.

The Withdrawal Agreement was passed by a majority of 621 votes to 49.

Following a signing from European Parliament president David Sassoli giving the EU's consent to Brexit, European MEPs began singing Auld Lang Syne as a symbolic send-off for the UK’s 73 MEPs leaving their roles.

MEP and Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage used his farewell speech to aim further criticism at the bloc, before he and his fellow party MEPs waved Union flags and walked out of the chamber.

The vote paves the way for the UK to leave the EU with a deal in place on Friday 31 January, at 23:00 GMT.

The full report can be read on the Leaders Council website here.
