The UK and EU have both said that significant differences remain in negotiations over a post-Brexit free-trade agreement, after the latest round of talks took place face-to-face in Brussels this week.
Prime minister Boris Johnson has said that the UK and EU are “not far apart” in terms of their respective positions on post-Brexit relations, but both sides agreed that talks needed “new momentum” after remote talks on Monday.
Prime minister Boris Johnson will engage EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, European Council president Charles Michel and European Parliament president David-Maria Sassoli in video-conference talks on Monday to help revive post-Brexit trade negotiations.
The fourth stage of Brexit talks have taken place over Zoom, with chief negotiators Michel Barnier and David Frost hammering out the big questions of the Irish border, fisheries, and tariffs. These talks seek to flesh out the final stage of negotiations.
The UK government has said that the latest round of negotiations with the EU this week over a post-Brexit trade deal has led to “very little progress”.
