Retail sales rise despite high street troubles

The three months leading up to March 2019 have seen the quantity bought in retail sales rise by 1.6 per cent compared to the previous three months. This first quarter growth has been supported by sustained rises throughout the first three months of the year.

ONS: Retail sales rise but food sales fall by biggest margin since December 2016

The Office for National Statistics have released their retail figures for February 2019, showing that retail sales rose by 0.4 per cent but food sales declined by 1.2 per cent. This fall in food sales is the biggest drop since December 2016.
