The Conservative party has pledged to empower England’s education regulator Ofsted with plans to introduce longer inspection windows and a funding boost of £10 million.

Ofsted have called for routine checks on “outstanding” schools to be resumed after 80 per cent of those it re-inspected were downgraded. These schools were re-inspected because concerns were raised about falling standards.
In a recent report, the thinktank EDSK has questioned the impact and utility of Ofsted’s grading system. Every Ofsted report is summarised into an overall grading: “inadequate”, “requires improvement”, “good” or “outstanding.”
