A & B London Construction Services

A Message from Lord Pickles and Lord Blunkett, followed by A & B London Construction Services's best practice article

The ability to listen and learn from one another has always been vital in parliament, in business and in most aspects of daily life. But at this particular moment in time, as national and global events continue to reiterate, it is uncommonly crucial that we forge new channels of communication and reinforce existing ones. The following article from A & B London Construction Services is an attempt to do just that. We would welcome your thoughts on this or any other Parliamentary Review article.

After working in construction for many years, Agim
Lleshi created Iliria Dry Lining Ltd in May of 2005 to
continue achieving high standards for local building
services across the Greater London area. After a few
months the company name was changed to A&B London
Construction Services Ltd (as a result of difficulties witnessed in
pronunciation). A & B provides a vast array of services related
to building and construction. Their approach and ethos applies
equally to every job: namely, professionalism, speed, tidiness
and high quality – without fail. Written by Agim Lleshi, the
Review article which follows discusses the company and its
story at length.
Our remit
Based in Barnet, north London, we cover London and its surrounding areas, and
have been doing so since 2005. Since being in this business, we have built and
maintained a good reputation, and possess many useful relationships within the
industry as a result. With seven to 12 employees and subcontractors, my company
is quite small, but we nevertheless provide services for all sorts of buildings,
including new builds, extensions, renovation and loft conversions.
In addition to the raw physical construction side of the business, we also provide
advice for our clients regarding – for example – party wall agreement, planning
permission and building regulations.

Highlighting best practice
In the space of our relatively short
existence, we have already rapidly
grown a reputation of being reliable,
trustworthy, fast, efficient and fairly
priced. Themajority of the work we
do is from the recommendations
and referrals of our happy previous
customers – customers, that is, who
make a habit of coming back to our
services as a result of our exceptional
builds in the past. We pride ourselves
on providing high-quality building
services, and on being exceptionally
committed to being the tidiest builders
in the London area.
Our values
If a job is worth doing, it’s worth
doing well. We do not have a “buy
cheap, buy twice” approach. The
prices we charge are competitive,
but reflect our professional expertise
and workmanship that will keep the
building lasting and resistant to the
It’s also crucial, we feel, that A&B
London Construction is an honest
business. This sounds obvious and
should go without saying, but it’s a
trait that cannot always be taken for
granted in business. Therefore, when
we say we are dedicated to providing
optimum quality workmanship on
every single job we undertake, we
mean it. Moreover, if there are ever
any queries or problems, we make it
our utmost priority to resolve them in
the shortest time possible and with
the least amount of inconvenience to
our customers. With our experience
and knowledge of the industry, A&B
London Construction is a company
with detailed knowledge of every
aspect of construction, from the
planning stage all the way through to
completion – meaning we can offer
our clients the full service. We do
this because our clients’ satisfaction
takes precedent. Indeed, not only
are we committed to meeting their
expectations, but we also make
exceeding them a matter of routine.
As a family-run business it hasn’t
always been easy to achieve what we
have achieved, but our hard work has
paid off. We are proud of what we
have achieved and for the reputation
we have as a company.
As a small company we have donated
to the Regiment Support Service for
many years now. We have also made
a donation to a client of ours: a special
needs school.

Structure of the company
In addition to our actual practice,
we also ensure that the company is
well structured and organised. To
this end, A&B London Construction
consists of a director, a secretary and
subcontractors who are teamed up as
the project demands. The numbers,
too, vary depending on the size of
the project and the distribution of
the workload. In other words, it is
not enough to simply have the right
workers; you have to ensure the
structural elements of the company are
in place – something that construction
companies do not always get right.
Safety of the employees, clients and
public is very important for us at A&B
London construction. We have always
maintained a strong commitment to
health and safety for the protection of
all people affected during our work.
We have our health and safety policy,
and this is always explained in detail to
our subcontractors – no one is in the
dark about this aspect of the company.
Our company, moreover, is a member
of HS Direct Ltd, where we use health
and safety software and print out the
method statement, risk assessment
and COSHH assessment. On top of
this, rules for health and safety are
ubiquitous on site and in theoffice.
Company strategy
Ultimately, our purpose is to grow a
reputation as one of the best builders
in London, and to be trustworthy
by providing enhanced services and
relationships – all, of course, with a
view to achieving profit. Our vision
is to grow the business and provide
quality services that exceed the
expectations of our valued customers.
To do this, though, requires a value
system, which is as follows: we aim
to treat our customers with respect,
integrity, honesty and along the lines
of established business ethics. All of
this is interwoven into all aspects of
our business operations. Finally, we
would like to see the perception of
the construction industry improve.
To whatever modest extent we can
achieve that, we will strive to do so.
We always take
great pride in
our clients’
satisfaction and
are totally
committed to
meeting and
even exceeding

The Rt Hon Theresa May MP's Foreword For The Parliamentary Review

By The Rt Hon Theresa May MP

This foreword from the then Prime Minister appeared in the 2018/19 Parliamentary Review.

British politics provides ample material for analysis in the pages of The Parliamentary Review. For Her Majesty’s Government, our task in the year ahead is clear: to achieve the best Brexit deal for Britain and to carry on our work to build a more prosperous and united country – one that truly works for everyone.

The right Brexit deal will not be sufficient on its own to secure a more prosperous future for Britain. We also need to ensure that our economy is ready for what tomorrow will bring. Our Modern Industrial Strategy is our plan to do that. It means Government stepping up to secure the foundations of our productivity: providing an education system that delivers the skills our economy needs, improving school standards and transforming technical education; delivering infrastructure for growth; ensuring people have the homes they need in the places they want to live. It is all about taking action for the long-term that will pay dividends in the future.

But it also goes beyond that. Government, the private sector and academia working together as strategic partners achieve far more than we could separately. That is why we have set an ambitious goal of lifting UK public and private research and development investment to 2.4 per cent of GDP by 2027. It is why we are developing four Grand Challenges, the big drivers of social and economic change in the world today: harnessing artificial intelligence and the data revolution; leading in changes to the future of mobility; meeting the challenges of our ageing society; and driving ahead the revolution in clean growth. By focusing our efforts on making the most of these areas of enormous potential, we can develop new exports, grow new industries and create more good jobs in every part of our country.

Years of hard work and sacrifice from the British people have got our deficit down by over three quarters. We are building on this success by taking a balanced approach to public spending. We are continuing to deal with our debts, so that our economy can remain strong and we can protect people’s jobs, and at the same time we are investing in vital public services, like our NHS. We have set out plans to increase NHS funding annually by an average by 3.4 percent in real terms: that is £394 million a week more. In return, the NHS will produce a ten-year plan, led by doctors and nurses, to eliminate waste and improve patient care.

I believe that Britain can look to the future with confidence. We are leaving the EU and setting a new course for prosperity as a global trading nation. We have a Modern Industrial Strategy that is strengthening the foundations of our economy and helping us to seize the opportunities of the future. We are investing in the public services we all rely on and helping them to grow and improve. Building on our country’s great strengths – our world-class universities and researchers, our excellent services sector, our cutting edge manufacturers, our vibrant creative industries, our dedicated public servants – we can look towards a new decade that is ripe with possibility. The government I lead is doing all it can to make that brighter future a reality for everyone in our country.
