Imorex

A Message from Lord Pickles and Lord Blunkett, followed by Imorex's best practice article

The ability to listen and learn from one another has always been vital in parliament, in business and in most aspects of daily life. But at this particular moment in time, as national and global events continue to reiterate, it is uncommonly crucial that we forge new channels of communication and reinforce existing ones. The following article from Imorex is an attempt to do just that. We would welcome your thoughts on this or any other Parliamentary Review article.

Imorex Shipping Services Limited, the Felixstowe-based logistics
service provider, was founded in 1973. It is a part of the Harrison
C White Ltd Group of supply chain, control tower and specialist
logistics companies. Group chief executive Carl Dayexplains.
Icompleted the acquisition of Imorex in 2016. It was an exciting development for
us, and acquiring such a long-established and well-respected company with the
pedigree of Imorex complemented our other companies within the group and
provided us with excellent opportunities for continued growth.
Continued success
This has proved to be the case, as other HCW operations have transferred into
Imorex, such as the warehouse facility in Ipswich, which serves to complement
our warehouse facilities in Felixstowe, allowing us to provide more comprehensive
services to our customers. Our BRC-accredited and dry bonded warehouse, located
close to the major arteries of the A14 and A12 highways, giving excellent access
to the north and south of the country, comprises 25,000 square feet providing
over 1,500 racking spaces. The core customer base for this site is foodstuffs, retail,
wholesale and supermarket business.
Imorex’s sister site is located adjacent to the Port of Felixstowe. The site comprises

Core activities
Imorex’s core activity offers a complete
global freight solution no matter what
the requirement. As members of the
WCA network, which covers 193
countries, or via the parent group of
companies, no country or location
is out of reach. Imorex provides full
customs clearance, warehousing
and distribution (both domestic and
international) and assistance with Port
Health & DEFRA procedures as well as
being an approved registered consignee
and consignor for all alcohol shipments.
Imorex is also able to facilitate sea, air,
rail or ferry movements.
Domestically, Imorex can provide
full and part load daily deliveries
throughout the UK and Ireland utilising
its own fleet. Should you need a van,
tail-lift, hi-ab, slider, heavy haul or
abnormal, Imorex can provide the
right solution for your business. Imorex
can also provide domestic container
deliveries for both import and export
cargo, with modern 44T vehicles able
to carry 20s, 40s and twin containers.
Ideal for smaller shipments, Imorex can
group your goods with other smaller
importers. On arrival, they simply
move the container to their warehouse,
unload under customs bond and
arrange clearance. Once cleared and
released Imorex can also deliver direct to
your customer using their own fleet of
vehicles once more. Imorex has been a
major player in the ETSF, formerly ERTS,
industry, and are currently unloading
approximately 100 TEU per week with
most of that being ETSF containers
from Asia, India and the USA.
Imorex is an industry leader in the
specialist car packing and shipping
business, regularly handling rare
and high-value cars to and from
worldwide destinations. Their sites
have specialised equipment to unload
restoration projects, vintage or prestige
vehicles. Each movement comes with a
comprehensive report for every vehicle
handled. All vehicles are secured
with either in-house designed metal
chocks to avoid issues at destination
with treated timber. The Imorex
value added service package can
also include collection and delivery,
cleaning, special requirements and
mechanical services. This service has
recently expanded to additionally
cover motorbikes and specialist
sportingbikes.
Looking at the business with a
fresh pair of eyes has also meant
the introduction of new marketing
campaigns, targeting new customers.
My aim is to make Imorex the flagship
of the group offering highly specialised
services, not least enabling customers
to keep constant track of products
via specially engineered dashboards. Industry leader in

Thesebespoke dashboards would have
the capability to capture real-time data
to produce a snapshot of the business.
Looking forward
We don’t have the ability to see into
the future; all we can do is plan the
best to the best of our ability and
be prepared and advised on new
challenges which may come our way.
We have contingency plans in place for
Brexit but are also excited at the new
opportunities that it will bring, not
least in addressing customs clearance
arrangements under whatever rules
are finally agreed with the European
Union and possible new trade partners.
Our Imorex ethos has always been
to seize the day, so to speak, and
find the positivity and opportunity in
everysituation.
Cyberattacks are on the rise and a
real-time threat, which is why we
constantly review our IT and security
systems. All of our staff have been
trained to recognise and report
phishing emails and anything that may
be out of the ordinary.
Imorex also claims an industry first for
its Blue Pallet loyalty initiative. Blue
Pallet is a profit share scheme that
currently utilises a congestion-free
route into the US, via Felixstowe –
Charleston – Felixstowe. One of our
other companies in the group has a
warehouse facility in Charleston that
can assist with onward distribution
through the Americas.
Like a mini cooperative, the scheme
offers a profit share split between all
shippers within the LCL container –
applicable to both import and exports
– returned as a discount on future
shipments. In short, the more you ship,
the more you save. This saving can
then be passed on to your customers or
realigned to increase your ownprofit.
With Blue Pallet already proving to be
a success, Imorex is hoping to roll out
the scheme across other routes. The
future is looking bright for Imorex;
the key to its success over the past
45 years has been adapting to shifts
in the industry, technology and client
expectations and demands.

The Rt Hon Theresa May MP's Foreword For The Parliamentary Review

By The Rt Hon Theresa May MP

This foreword from the then Prime Minister appeared in the 2018/19 Parliamentary Review.

British politics provides ample material for analysis in the pages of The Parliamentary Review. For Her Majesty’s Government, our task in the year ahead is clear: to achieve the best Brexit deal for Britain and to carry on our work to build a more prosperous and united country – one that truly works for everyone.

The right Brexit deal will not be sufficient on its own to secure a more prosperous future for Britain. We also need to ensure that our economy is ready for what tomorrow will bring. Our Modern Industrial Strategy is our plan to do that. It means Government stepping up to secure the foundations of our productivity: providing an education system that delivers the skills our economy needs, improving school standards and transforming technical education; delivering infrastructure for growth; ensuring people have the homes they need in the places they want to live. It is all about taking action for the long-term that will pay dividends in the future.

But it also goes beyond that. Government, the private sector and academia working together as strategic partners achieve far more than we could separately. That is why we have set an ambitious goal of lifting UK public and private research and development investment to 2.4 per cent of GDP by 2027. It is why we are developing four Grand Challenges, the big drivers of social and economic change in the world today: harnessing artificial intelligence and the data revolution; leading in changes to the future of mobility; meeting the challenges of our ageing society; and driving ahead the revolution in clean growth. By focusing our efforts on making the most of these areas of enormous potential, we can develop new exports, grow new industries and create more good jobs in every part of our country.

Years of hard work and sacrifice from the British people have got our deficit down by over three quarters. We are building on this success by taking a balanced approach to public spending. We are continuing to deal with our debts, so that our economy can remain strong and we can protect people’s jobs, and at the same time we are investing in vital public services, like our NHS. We have set out plans to increase NHS funding annually by an average by 3.4 percent in real terms: that is £394 million a week more. In return, the NHS will produce a ten-year plan, led by doctors and nurses, to eliminate waste and improve patient care.

I believe that Britain can look to the future with confidence. We are leaving the EU and setting a new course for prosperity as a global trading nation. We have a Modern Industrial Strategy that is strengthening the foundations of our economy and helping us to seize the opportunities of the future. We are investing in the public services we all rely on and helping them to grow and improve. Building on our country’s great strengths – our world-class universities and researchers, our excellent services sector, our cutting edge manufacturers, our vibrant creative industries, our dedicated public servants – we can look towards a new decade that is ripe with possibility. The government I lead is doing all it can to make that brighter future a reality for everyone in our country.
